April is a big month around here. Term 2 is underway, and a couple of meaningful global awareness days land this month, too. Here’s what’s on our radar, and what’s happening at the practice.
Term 2 Is Back – And So Are the Heavy Bags
With kids back at school across Perth, those school bags are back on their shoulders. The Australian Chiropractors Association highlights that heavy or poorly fitted backpacks may place strain on children’s developing bodies. Many schoolchildren carry their bags with poor posture, often leaning forward or using only one strap. Over time, this may contribute to muscle fatigue and postural changes.
A few simple tips may help: the bag should ideally weigh no more than 10-15% of your child’s body weight, always be worn on both straps, and sit close to the back between the shoulders and hips.
28 April: International Health and Safety at Work Day
Every 28 April, the world pauses to reflect on workplace wellbeing. In Australia in 2024, close to 200 workers lost their lives at work, and over 145,000 claims were made for serious workplace injuries and illnesses, according to Safe Work Australia.
Work-related musculoskeletal conditions are a common workplace concern. Poor posture, non-ergonomic desk setups, and repetitive tasks can all play a role. If you’ve been noticing ongoing aches or discomfort, it may be worth having your posture or movement patterns assessed with a registered health professional.
22 April: Happy Earth Day from All of Us
We care about our footprint. That’s why at Dalkeith Chiropractic, we use bamboo paper products, biodegradable bin bags and cups, and keep plants around the space for a welcoming environment. We also run an air filter to support indoor comfort.
If you’re local to Perth, we’re on the Purple CAT bus line. Catching the bus is a convenient, great low-emission way to get to your appointment. You can find the stop details on our contact page.
Make the Most of This Month
Small steps add up, whether it’s your child’s posture, your workspace habits, or simply booking time for a check-up. We’d love to see you this month!
