Our Techniques

“Together we agree on a plan of treatment that is specifically tailored to your needs.”

At Dalkeith Chiropractic we are focused on evidence based practice. We also realise the importance of getting to the cause of the problem rather than chasing around treating only the symptoms. After a thorough history and physical exam your chiropractor will give you a detailed report of findings and together you agree on a plan of treatment that is specifically tailored to your needs. This will often include diet or supplement recommendations, exercises and other ‘homework’. This allows you to take control of your health. The other part of this plan may include some or all of the following. Please let your chiropractor know if you have any questions.

Chiropractic Adjustment

A chiropractic adjustment is the art and science of using a specific force in a precise direction, applied to a joint that is not moving properly. There are many ways and techniques to adjust the spine. Usually the doctor’s hands or a specially designed instrument delivers a brief and highly-accurate adjustment. Some adjusting methods are quick, whereas others require a slow and constant pressure. At Dalkeith Chiropractic we offer very gentle alternatives as well as tradition chiropractic adjustments. Please let us know if you are concerned and the doctor will discuss these with you.

Graston Technique

Graston Technique® is an innovative form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The Technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.  See the Graston Technique website for more information.

Anatomical Acupuncture or Dry needling

In simple terms dry needling is a western way of applying traditional Chinese acupuncture to help with the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions such neck and back pain. It is a drug free alternative to manage pain for some patients. Your Chiropractor may offer this to you if your case warrants it.

Kinesio Taping

The Kinesio® Taping Method is applied over muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused or tired muscles, and support muscles in movement on a 24-hour-a-day basis. It is not a restrictive type of taping and allows for full range of motion. In contrast, traditional sports taping is wrapped around a joint strictly for stabilization and support during an athletic event. Kinesio® Tex Tape is used to treat anything from headaches to foot problems and everything in-between. Examples include rehabilitation from sports injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, lower back strain/pain (subluxation, herniated disc), knee and shoulder conditions, and many more. See the Kinesio website for more information.

Webster Technique

“The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces interference to the nerve system and balances maternal pelvic muscles and ligaments. This in turn reduces torsion in the uterus, a cause of intra-uterine constraint of the baby and allows for optimal fetal positioning in preparation for birth.”
